Topic: Gang violence in the prison system.
Step one in the research process is for you to write and submit a proposal for your topic. This proposal will include a well-written thesis statement that explains your paper topic. Your proposal will also explain where you have found source material for your paper. Often, the act of writing the proposal-putting ideas into words-helps you refine and define your thesis. Your instructor will comment on your initial proposal and you should plan on revising and resubmitting the proposal until it is a working document that will enable you to conduct the writing of a solid research paper. This is the brainstorming and refining of your research thinking. The Research Proposal Assignment must include the following information:
1) The purpose/ideas for writing this paper. What will you research and why is that important? How does it fit into the context of the overall assignment?
2) A clearly defined working thesis statement or idea for this paper. What do you expect to find in your research? What have you already found?
3) A listing of at least two sources
This is a short proposal (350-400 words), yet it should convey, directly or indirectly, all of the required information listed above. The purpose of this proposal assignment is to help you focus on your topic and think about the resources needed for your final paper. The researcher's role in the project is both to inform the audience and to advocate a particular course of action.
