In the last 50 years, union membership in the American private sector has declined from approximately 30% of all workers to only 6.2%. At the same time, the existence of public employee unions has done the opposite (mushroomed from a very small percentage to just over 1/3 of all public employees). What do you believe is the primary reason for radically opposite trends in private employee unions versus public employee units?
