I. Internet image search for "man" in one window and "woman" in another. Describe what you see. What do the results reveal about what type of men and women are considered the default, or neutral, in our societies? In contrast, who is less visible?
II. Go to implicit.harvard.edu and register to find out your implicit associations about various statuses. Take a gender-related test and a second test of your choosing. What was it like to take the test? What did you notice as you took it? Were these tests explicitly or implicitly intersectional? How so? How might these associations in our brain, and their intersections, operate in daily life?
III. a list of identities, other than gender, that are important to you or important to others. What is your gendered way of being who you are? How does gender intersect with some of the identities you wrote down? In your life, who makes which of your identities relevant and consequential? Does the importance of your gender, or other identities, shift across contexts (e.g., from home to school or school to work)?
IV. Serch for Internet essays aimed at policing men using phrases like "men should never" or "real men don't." Look over a few of these. Does this seem like a lot of restrictions to you? Is the association of these things/activities with femininity part of the rationale for why men shouldn't do these things? How can you tell? Which type of inequality do these sorts of online essays reflect?
V. Open Google in two different windows and type "Why does my girl like boy stuff?" in the search bar in one window and "Why does my boy like girl stuff?" in the search bar in the other window. Review the first page of the results. How are the results similar or different? Do the results reflect gender inequality? How so? VI. Considering issues related to rape, intimate partner violence, and pornography, what suggestions would you offer to policy makers seeking to reduce men's violence toward women? Be specific.
