What do Mintz and Price refer to as "Retentions" and Survivals?
Basically what they are saying is that; social systems respond to whatever is happening, climate, materials, food. etc. Some people, for example say this is a dish my great. great -grandmother prepared in 1906. The same ingredients are going to vary. so the dish is going to be somewhat different.
