What discipline is appropriate in the circumstances and why

Problem

Jamie is a 6 year employee with a generally good work history. Jamie has two written warnings on file one for being late for work three times in one month (this was 4 months ago). One for inappropriate conduct in how Jamie spoke to another employee (rude and aggressive).

Yesterday, after being asked by his manager to assist a fellow employee, Jamie responded with "would you just get off my case Cheryl? Can't you see I'm busy doing my job. Maybe if you knew how to manage you wouldn't be such a prick"

Since, the incident Jamie has apologized, has acknowledged what was said is wrong and has said that he is dealing with a divorce and a custody battle at home and that he just cracked under the pressure.

The manager says she has lost face and is advising a 4-day suspension for Jamie.
