What disagreement contributes to effective decision making

Assignment Task: According to Drucker (2008), strategic planning is:

The continuous process of making present risk-taking decisions systematically with the greatest knowledge of their futurity; organizing systematically the efforts needed to carry out these decisions; and measuring the results of these decisions against the expectations through organized, systematic feedback.

Decision making, then, is a very important process for any organization. In the reading for this unit, Drucker (2008) gives the example of Franklin Roosevelt's decision making process. When Roosevelt had to make a decision, he would ask multiple cabinet members to think the problem through and each give him their recommendations. In this process he learned who would be most supportive, and who had very different views on the decision. Roosevelt then made his decision based on his opinion and the opinions he heard. Drucker (2008) goes on to say that "the first rule in decision making is that one does not make a decision unless there is disagreement".
