1.) Summarizing: Think hard, be bold, and put these in your own words.

2.) For each of the revolutions and rebellions, summarize the following:

  • Who: Plotted the rebellions [who were the leaders]? Who or what was the rebellion against?
  • When and where did the revolutions/rebellions take place? List key places for each one; avoid being vague.
  • What: Was this a rebellion or a revolution? What were the ways the rebellion was carried out?

  • American Revolution: Consider the things that made the American colonists angry about King George. Now consider what you know about the government that was established after gaining their independence. Answer: What was revolutionary about the American Revolution? What things were not?
  • Denmark Vessey & Nat Turner's Rebellions: Based on these readings, how would you define the response to slavery from Black people who were enslaved?
  • For each of the remaining revolutions and rebellions: what were the effects of these events?

4.) Comparing: For each of the revolutions and rebellions, compare the following:

  • Choose one rebellion and one revolution: What are two key similarities between a revolution and a rebellion? Use at least two examples from your readings.
  • What ideas about freedom did leaders of the Haitian Revolution and have in common?
  • What ideas about freedom did leaders of the French Revolution and the American Revolution have in common?

5.) Contrast: For each of the revolutions and rebellions, contrast the following:

  • Consider their overall goals and methods: How did the Great Jamaica Revolt differ from Nat Turner's Rebellion?
  • Choose two events [different events from the two you've previously used]: Contrast the ways that religion was utilized to formulate their overall goals and tactics.
