Assignment: Professional Nursing Role to Research: Certified Nurse Midwife

Presentation Guidelines:
Create a 3 to 5 minute recorded, verbal presentation to share with your peers (e.g., voiceover function in Canva/PowerPoint). Prepare an engaging script that corresponds with the slides, with attention to avoiding reading off the slides. Post the presentation and script to the forum.
1) Title of the presentation and your name
2) The nursing role and a broad overview of the role itself
3) Education
a) Does a nurse need to obtain additional training, certification, or advanced degrees beyond a BSN to perform this role?
b) What practical nursing background would be most appropriate to serve in this role (medical-surgical, obstetrics, geriatric, community health, etc.)?
4) Population and Location
a) Where do nurses in this role typically work? Urban, rural, clinics, hospitals?
b) What type of schedule do nurses in this position typically work? Nights, days, consistent or flexible schedule?
c) Is this role focused on direct patient care or a manager/administrative role? Explain.
d) What types of clients might the nurse serve (age, gender, socioeconomic background, ethic group)? If the nurse could serve a general population, is there a specific demographic that is of interest to you?
5) Interpersonal Skills
a) What communication skills would a nurse in this setting need to develop to provide high-quality care? See Black (2020) Chapter 12 for possible ideas.
b) Identify at least two interprofessional teammates a nurse in this role might collaborate with and explain why their collaboration is essential.
c) Articulate two unique contributions of this role in improving patient-outcomes.
d) Connect relevant literature and the research done on the role and articulate how this role makes a positive difference for patients.
e) Is there a professional organization for this specialty? (e.g., American Association of Critical-Care Nurses).
