What can we be doing as a society

Problem

When examining the carbon cycle we discussed how humans are adding carbon dioxide and methane, both greenhouse gases, to the atmosphere which is contributing to global climate change. As a result of global economies shutting down in 2020, it has been estimated there was a 6.5% decrease in greenhouse gas emissions. However, we have essentially gone back to business as usual for 2021 and 2022. For your discussion, I want you to think about climate change.

1) Do you think climate change is an issue we should be concerned about? Why or why not?

2) What can we be doing as a society (nationally and globally) that will allow us to have our economy up and running but still decrease greenhouse gas emissions?

3) Do you think recent policy changes, like California banning the sale of new gasoline powered cars in the next decade, are a good idea? Why or why not? What types of policy changes on either the state or national level would you suggest?

4) What can you do as an individual to minimize your greenhouse gas emissions? What are you actually willing to do?
