Assignment Task: K9K managed to continue trading throughout 2021. In September 2022, after a slow start to the year, K9K is busier at lunch times than in previous months because people start returning to working in the CBD. To her delight, Amy, the Restaurant Manager, starts receiving bookings for large lunches and even Christmas party bookings.

Amy hires four new waiting staff. None of them have much waiting experience but Amy found it hard find anyone to hire so she decided they would have to do. Like Amy, the new workers are covered by the Restaurant Industry Award 2020.

Sandra is one of the new waiting staff and her first shift does not go well. She mixes up the orders for two of K9K's most important customers, charges another customer the wrong price for a bottle of wine and to top it all off, she spills milk over her uniform when she's trying to make a cappuccino for a customer. At the end of her shift, when the restaurant is empty, Amy berates Sandra for all of her mistakes, pointing out how much they have cost the restaurant and telling her that in future, any losses will be taken out of her pay.

On her next shift, Amy is very cold towards Sandra but she makes jokes and is friendly towards the other new waiting staff and encourages them to come to drinks with the kitchen staff after work. During Sandra's third shift, the other waiting staff tease her and Amy doublechecks all of her orders and watches her closely every time she charges a customer for their meal. She also points out that Sandra's uniform is stained and greasy in front of a customer.

After her shift, Sandra burst into tears on the train home. She was really excited about her new job. She'd been planning to start a certificate in hospitality management at TAFE the following year and she needs the job to support herself but she doesn't know how she can continue to work for K9K when everyone is so horrible.
