You are an emergency relief intake officer for Uniting Care in Broadmeadows - you current assess families for emergency relief packages which include food parcels and vouchers for other basic goods and services for families. You begin to notice that the same families are returning every fortnight and begin to think is there value in creating an opportunity at the centre for families to meet together. Your focus is to determine what these families might do together to build more of a community of support.
The program's goal is to give families the opportunity to get together and share their experiences, as well as to build a support network of other families in similar situations. The program will also try to give families with information and resources on how to access emergency relief and other available support services.
Families who are struggling to meet their basic requirements frequently experience feelings of isolation and loneliness. The formation of a community of support can give families the opportunity to connect with other families who are navigating obstacles that are analogous to those that they are experiencing themselves.
