Task is to read two prescribed journal articles and build the commentary on the overall theme of servant leadership and employee performance. Discuss the key points and main arguments in the two articles in relation to broader leadership theories and concepts, and extend your discussion by explaining the application of relevant theories and concepts to your own professional experience.
Procedures
Read the following journal articles on leadership:
1) Lemoine, GJ, Eva, N, Meuser, JD & Falotico, P 2021, 'Organizational performance with a broader focus: The case for a stakeholder approach to leadership', Business Horizons, vol. 64, no. 4, pp. 401-413.
2) Hartnell, CA, Karam, EP, Kinicki, AJ & Dimotakis, N 2020, 'Does servant leadership's people focus facilitate or constrain its positive impact on performance? An examination of servant leadership's direct, indirect, and total effects on branch financial performance', Group & Organization Management.
As a first step, identify the main ideas and arguments put forward in both articles related to the overall theme. Then, use the following questions as a guide to help you draft your writing. Use these questions as a guide and do not use them as headings in your response:
A. What arguments do the authors raise in relation to the overall theme?
B. To what extent do you (dis)agree with what the authors are saying? Use examples from your own professional experience to justify your answer.
C. Support your explanations/examples with links to other relevant theory/research/models from your wider reading.
D. How would/could you apply the theory/research/model in the role of leadership to improve your practical leadership capabilities?
After completing a first draft, check it against the marking criteria for this task (listed below).
Task
A. Write a Commentary in an essay format. This means that you do not typically use multiple headings and sub-headings within the body of your response, as you would when writing a report. Only use the headings given to you in the provided template.
B. Write paragraphs that are well-structured to develop and support your ideas. If you need to, review the AIB support materials in how to structure paragraphs in academic writing.
