Analysis of the Supreme Court Ruling: Roe vs. Wade

Supreme Court handed down a landmark decision on abortion. At the time of the decision, almost 2/3 of the states had laws making abortion at any stage of the pregnancy illegal except to save the life of the mother.

Jane Roe, an alias for Norma McCorvey, brought suit against Henry Wade, the district attorney of Dallas County, Texas. In a 7-2 decision, the Supreme Court declared that anti-abortion laws like those in Texas violated a woman's constitutional right to privacy.
