Problem 1. Got RED Tape? Interestingly, you may have heard that term applied to excessive governmental paperwork or requirements. (The term is derived from England where official documents once were bound with red tape. If you were encountering a lot of red tape, you were probably dealing with the government's bureaucracy.) Governments make a tremendous amount of law that impacts businesses. This begs the questions: How involved should the government be in business interests? What should the relationship be between the government and business?

Problem 2. Frequently, as business managers we are faced with the mandate to offer services more efficiently and inexpensively, effectively to "do more with less." At the government level, the bureaucracy created for delivering services could be referred to as the "fourth branch of government." From an ideological perspective, this movement is characterized as privatization of government services. Discuss an example of how privatization of a current government service could positively or negatively affect business operations and managerial decision-making.

Problem 3. What are your thoughts on preferential hiring? Is still necessary in the workplace and our schools or is it an outdated model for promoting diversity and equality? Defend your answer.

Problem 4. Explain how the nature of the employer-employee relationship helps to determine the extent of privacy in the workplace. For example, can an employer ask for your facebook password as part of the hiring process (Blumenthal, 2012) - feel free to use your own example.
