The Future of Water

For this third (graded) discussion, pretend you are a hydrologist for the State of Arizona. You are aware of the continuing drought in the Southwest and the continuing urban growth that is increasing the demand for water consumption. Climatologists are now thinking that the "drought" is actually a return to normal conditions that may last for the next few decades. Given this scenario, do your best to answer the following questions:

First, what are your own personal, specific recommendations for wisely managing this water "crisis" in the Southwest? Be sure to justify your answer, and include your own perspective on urban growth as well. Do you believe that urban growth and a long-term water shortage can co-exist? If so, how would you do it? Just share a couple ideas here, as other students will likely come up with others.

Second, briefly discuss your own local water situation and how you perceive the availability of fresh water where you live, even if you do not live in the "Southwest". Perhaps some of you will have a very different perspective on local water supplies and issues coming from wetter climate regions (as I did). Be sure to use some supporting information from another source to enhance your discussion, and provide the reference somewhere in your post.

Answer should be 2-3 paragraphs.
