Overview
For this paper you will reflect on your own cultural beliefs, values and customs and discuss their influence on the shaping of you as a person and how they relate to your future human service work. This is an assignment that requires honesty and exploration of who you are so that you are better able to help those who seek your services.
Instructions
Questions that must be answered are:
1. What culture(s) do you identify with?
2. What are your cultural beliefs, values and customs? How do you express your culture(s) (e.g. dress, food, language, and so forth)?
3. What challenges and opportunities do you see with regards to your culture and working within a multicultural and diverse profession?
4. What biases and prejudices were brought forth for you and how might those influence how you work within the human service profession and with clients? Please be honest with this question, this is a time for you to reflect on who you are so that you can effectively work with clients.
5. What exposure have you had to cultures different from your own? How might this influence how you work within the human service profession and with clients?
