Assignment: Science Fiction
Outline Template
Introduction:
The introduction will introduce the topic at hand. Assume the reader is unfamiliar with the assignment, the class, the fiction/films, the philosophy and the question. Tell us what you are going to write about and why it's important (look to the paper prompt). Finally, give us a clear thesis that will take a position on the topic at hand. Tell us in the thesis what, for instance, Plato tells us about "Johnny Mneumonic" and "Speech Sounds"; what Kristeva tells us about Alien and "The Examination"; what Barber tells us about Children of Men and "Speech Sounds"; what Hill tells us about Frankenstein and "The Examination"; etc.
Section 2:
Section 2 introduces your research. Stick to the sources provided in class. Explain-briefly-what each source is, what happens in it, and why you are using it to prove your thesis. The perfect section will also tie these sources together to show how they interact.

Body:
The body paragraphs will demonstrate how your thesis is illustrated in the fictional texts through the philosophical texts. The body will prove your thesis by quoting the texts and explaining the meanings of the quotes.

2. Describe the scene: quote the text.
3. Explain the scene with the philosopher.
B. Scene two
1. Tell us what you are going to explain with a given scene.
2. Describe the scene: quote the text.
3. Explain the scene with the philosopher.
C. Etc. The body paragraphs should continue for 4 to 5 pages.
Conclusion:
The conclusion will restate the thesis. Then, it will work backwards through the introduction. Tell me, briefly, how you have proven the thesis (summarize the body), then remind me why this is important (restate the introduction). Finally, tell me what your paper suggests about science fiction in general.
