What are two cons of working in this type of structure

Problem

Carefully review the following two scenarios and answer the questions at the end of each one.

Scenario I: You are employed by Amazon in the credit card department as a full-time project manager. Other departments in the institution are

i. Marketing
ii. Small Business Operations
iii. Corporate Operations
iv. Retail Banking

The department wants to launch a new credit card targeted specifically for millennials. Users of the card will receive travel points for singles resort destinations. Last week your manager assigned you as the project manager for this project. You will be managing the first stage of the project - to conduct customer research to determine if this type of credit card for singles would be appealing to millennials. Your manager has already negotiated and obtained commitment from his peers in the organization regarding the budget and resource allocation to the project.

Scenario II: You are a full-time project manager, working for the IT department of a major bank. You report in to the Project Management Office of the organization as one of a pool of project managers. The PMO is the department that initiates all projects for the organization. Other departments in the organization are Business Analysis, Marketing and Research and Database Operations. Your manager has assigned you a Payroll project with a budget that has already been approved by her manager. You will need to identify resources for the project.

Answer the following questions for EACH of the two (2) scenarios above:

i. What type of organizational structure is this? Why? Justify your choice.
ii. What are two pros of working in this type of structure?
iii. What are two cons of working in this type of structure?
