Assignment: Leadership in the Movies
Movies are excellent visual examples of leadership in action! They provide concrete models of behavior for observation. You will watch a leader in a movie and create report that connects your observation to our discussions in class. Use examples from the movie to get your point across.
Answer the following, based off the leader Miranda Priestly in 'The Devil Wears Prada' Report Questions:
I. Who is the leader in this film?
II. Why do you think they fit the description of a leader?
III. Are they a visionary leader? Why or why not?
IV. What 2 types of power does this leader use?
o Give examples of how they use each of these types of powers.
V. Is he/she a charismatic leader? Why or why not?
VI. What are 3 personality traits of your chosen leader?
o Describe how these 3 personality traits are demonstrated in the film.
VII. What leadership style do they use? Link to the course.
o Give 2 specific examples of how you know their leadership style.
VIII. What management style do they use (i.e. Classical management or behavioural) How do you know this?
IX. Does the leader accomplish their desired goals?
o If yes, explain what actions led to this success. If no, explain what actions led to the failure.
X. Discuss the changes in Andrea (Andi) since she started working for Miranda? Why did she manage to last when many other girls failed at the same position?
XI. Would you work for such a leader if it meant advancement in your career? Why or why not?
