2.) How would you respond to claims by critics that the Kimberley Process is not a good model for other economic sanctions programs? The critics base their claims on:
(a) the nature of Sierra Leone - a small country in a region of the world where the major powers had few national interests at stake;
(b) the nature of the diamond trade which is dominated by a small number of countries; and (b) the nature of the demand for diamonds - public opinion in the West supported restrictions on blood diamonds, something that might not be the case for non-luxury commodities like oil, timber and industrial minerals, which are also illegally exported by rebel groups in other countries.
