Police patrol is one of the three basic methods used by the police to fulfill their mission. Explain whether it is effective or not. If you believe it is, why? If you believe it is not, why not?
Goal: To explore Community Policing as a component of American police agencies. Go the U.S. Department of Justice website for community oriented policing (COPS) and answer the following questions:
1. What are the three core elements of community policing?
2. What kinds of resources for school safety are provided for police agencies?
3. Does the COPS office provide funding for police agencies?
Now go to the City of San Antonio, Texas Police Department website and answer the following questions:
1. How does this department define community policing? Is it the same (or similar) as the COPS definition from the DOJ website?
2. Does the department have a specialized COP unit and run specialized programs that are community policing focused?
3. What programs are available for citizen involvement/participation in the police department?
