What are the pros and cons of using survey for your proposal

Problem

A. Surveys are an extremely popular mode of research because they allow you to obtain large amounts of information (data), for relatively little time and money. A researcher can get information about people's' behaviors, attitudes, opinions and insights all in one survey.

B. An example of a double negative question: To what degree do you agree with the following statement: "I did not know neither the policies nor the policies for filing complaints against police officers." In this sentence the words "not" and "neither" or negative statements. Inclusion of both of these terms make this a confusing sentence. An example of a double barreled question is "Do you agree with the death penalty and the stand your ground law?" In this sentence, two questions are being asked. The problem is a respondent could agree with the death penalty but disagree with the stand your ground law. However, the question, as it is written, forces them to choose an answer even if they don't agree with both questions.

C. Likert questions are questions that measure the extent to which someone agrees with a given statement. Additionally, they capture other measures like, how often someone engages in a particular activity (frequently, somewhat frequently, rarely, somewhat rarely, never).

D. A survey is the process of collecting information while the questionnaire is a collection of questions with answer choices.

E. Demographic questions are questions like race, gender, socio-economic status, education attainment, etc. It is suggested that demographic questions be placed at the end of surveys because of the nature of the questions.

F. Cover letter should always describe the purpose of the study. They should also mention that participation is voluntary.
