What are the null and alternative hypotheses for experiment

Problem

Pretend that you are a zookeeper. When you clean the lemur enclosure, you notice fruit is being left behind. You want to make sure that your troop of lemurs receive a nutritionally complete diet so you provide a choice test to determine if they are more likely to eat the banana or apples, the only fruit provided. To conduct an experiment that addresses this question, you place a bowl of banana slices and a bowl of apple slices at random in their enclosure. You then sit in an inconspicuous spot and count the number of lemurs that visit each bowl over a period of several hours.

• What are the independent and dependent variables in this experiment?

• What are the null and alternative hypotheses for this experiment? (Make sure your hypotheses include the independent and dependent variables!)
