Durkheim is most closely associated with the structural functionalist theory and Marx with conflict theory. What are the major elements of these two theories? How does each theory explain or describe the nature of society? What are the similarities and differences? To keep from repeating each other, please consider different points of comparison; e.g. if there are good descriptions of how order is maintained, consider other characteristics of society: poverty, power, economic conditions, gender (in)equality, etc.
