Police officers face many challenging circumstances during their career. Most of their daily contacts with the public are moments of crisis, conflict, or high emotions. Some members of the public view the police as the "bad guys" because they have to enforce the law. This enforcement often takes the form of a citation or an arrest, which can produce a negative attitude towards the police. Negative interactions with the public and many stressful duties creates isolation and separation in police officers. Some police officers have the "us vs. them" mentality and portray a negative image of policing.
