Choose an area/ team in your current work environment Spend observing the style and process of communication taking place Document your observations / field notes in Mahara Request a minimum of 5 colleagues to discuss and record their answers to the following questions:
1. What is the reason you believe denial is so prevalent in the healthcare setting with respect to stress for physicians, nurses, and allied health personnel?
2. When you think of the terms "burnout," "compassion fatigue," and "chronic secondary stress," what do you think of in terms of your own life?
3. What are the issues that make you most anxious? What are the ones you deal with the best?
4. What elements that are currently in your self-care protocol have been most beneficial for you? What are the least?
5. What do you struggle with most in your efforts to take care of yourself?
6. What are the "bad habits" of the people you observe in your profession that you do not want to emulate?
7. Analyze you colleague answers to the questions and identify common 'themes' across the responses - watch the YouTube video "Thematic Analysis of Qualitative User Research Data" to learn a quick and easy method for thematic analysis.
8. Review your thematic analysis against the field notes that you took during your week of observation
9. Develop your argument for the level of resilience amongst HCP in the area you assessed Field Notes:
a. Things to pay attention to:
b. When & where key communications take place
c. Tone of voice used
d. Body language
e. Volume and quality of work
f. Interactions with supervisor
g. Unwillingness to change practice or behavior
h. Supervision outside the hierarchy.
