What are the impacts of event on health of a population

Assignment task:

Step 1: Take part in developing a public health blog for the course. Consider all the areas that public health touches such as caring for vulnerable populations, environmental health, policy, and epidemiologic investigations of communicable diseases. A broad range of topics can be considered related to public health-these are just a few examples. You may look at events in your local area, state, the US or another country. Please do NOT choose the disaster you selected for your week 10 assignment.

Review online journals, newspapers, and/or digital websites and databases. Select one current (<5 years old) event that falls under the umbrella of public health and impacted a population

Step 2: Provide the link to the digital journal or website used as a resource for the event you select.

Include a summary of the event and answer the following prompts:

1. What are the impacts of the event on the health of a population? Consider short-term and long-term consequences

2. Answer ONE of these prompts, as appropriate to your event:

  • Analyze the response of public health to the event
  • Identify and discuss the role of community groups and volunteers before or after the event
  • Describe a policy that was changed or introduced related to the event
  • Propose a public health prevention strategy to prevent similar events or complications

3. For the purposes of this discussion, practice blog writing, which is more conversational than scholarly and intends to gain your audience's attention. While blog writing is conversational, it should still be fact-based. Limit your personal opinions, unless they are to be considered evidence. Examples of appropriate use of personal opinion: if you lived through a hurricane, or if your family was unable to secure health care, and you wanted to add your testimony to the evidence you collected about these topics. Pay attention to the sources you use to make sure you are securing the highest degree of evidence on the event. There should be at least one source/reference used, using the sources listed in step 1.
