Directions
Pick any journal question that was available throughout the first half of our course, and develop its answer into a short essay. It should not be a short answer. It should be a traditional essay with all its parts: an introduction, a thesis, body paragraphs, and a conclusion. You can use a question that you have already used for your journal, or you can use a totally new question. The essay should be two to three pages minimum and double spaced. Make sure that you include the journal question at the top of your essay.
Task
What are the general rules or patterns of negative sentences in English? Looking at the developmental sequence that has been described for English negation, think about what learners see, to notice first. Is it word order? Special words? What features seem hardest for them to acquire?
