Problem: Mary is a 17-year-old primigravida who delivered a baby girl by vaginal delivery two weeks ago. Since she was born, she has been breastfeeding without any problems. She noticed two days ago that her left breast became increasingly firm and swollen, causing increased pain. She also noticed cracks appearing on her nipples. As a result of a fever and chills that began this morning, as well as breast pain that became unbearable when she tried to breastfeed, she made an appointment to see her obstetrician. She is motivated to be a good mom. She has six weeks off before returning to work at Subway. She lives with her parents and the baby's father isn't involved. While her parents are at work, she is mostly alone and has a lot of questions about caring for and feeding her child.
