Assignment: Social Control and Criminal Deviance: Bullying
Bullying is a difficult concept to understand and reconcile the consequences. This assignment focuses on the critical thinking skills that are needed to analyze an emotionally charged topic.

• Review chapter 6 of your text: "Crime and Deviance" and chapter 12 "Education and Society".
• Consider how bullying relates to crime and deviant behavior, as well as the "agents of socialization" (i.e., family, teachers and school, peers).
• Take notes as you watch the film "Bully", located in Instructor's Insights.
• Write a one to two page essay addressing the following questions in Part 1 and 2.
Part 1: Answer one of the film discussion questions below:
1. As you watch the film, consider Alex's story. How do people respond when they encounter a difference that they do not understand?
2. As you watch the film, consider the Longs' story. Who bears responsibility for the effects of bullying? How should communities respond to suicides by young people who are bullied?
3. As you watch the film, consider Ja'Meya's story. How does Ja'Meya defy your assumptions about the victims of bullying? What do you think should be the consequences for her action?
Part 2: Answer the following:
• What are the best strategies to combat bullying? Provide a rationale for your response.

• To keep this essay short and manageable, your only sources for the essay should be the film "Bully" and the sections noted in your text. APA citations or references are required for this assignment.
