What are states that need to be considered for reliability

A system has three states, i.e. good (State 1), degraded (State 2) and failed (State 3). The unit is functional in the good and degraded states. The transition rate from the good to the degraded state is Lambda12=0.03/hr and the transition rate from degraded to failed state is Lambda23=0.02/hr. The system is initially good and there is no repair.

a) What are the states that need to be considered for a reliability analysis of the system?
b) Write down the differential equations that describe the evolution of the states identified in Part (a).
c) Find the MTTF.
