What are some things you could do to ease the anxiety

Assignment Task:

It is Saturday, July 4th and you are working at the Urgent Care Center. Due to a critical incident that has occurred at the local fairgrounds, five patients are being transferred to the Urgent Care Clinic you are working at. These patients do not have life threatening injuries, however their injuries are extensive enough that will need treatment and possibly other studies such as an x-ray. It is a normal Saturday staffing schedule, hence having 2 providers and 3 Medical Assistants. You will need to work as a team to ensure that you are moving as quickly as possible. The physician and RN have already gathered patient information from dispatch so have assessed the patient order and have advised all the Medical Assistants as well.

The injury/condition and order of patients to be seen are as follows:

63 yr. old with wrist pain (obvious fracture/break)

32 yr. old with ankle pain and cannot walk on it

55 yr. old with small arm laceration

3 yr. old with 1" head laceration

10 yr. old skinned knees and elbows

In reviewing your lecture reading provided in the lesson tab what treatment and/or procedures might the MA assist the provider perform or request to be done with each patient? Which patients would require specific or special equipment in the exam room to have ready for the physician? In addition, what are some things you could do to ease their anxiety while they wait for the physician to come into the room?

Please make your initial post by midweek, and respond to at least one other student's post by the end of the week. Please check the Course Calendar for specific due dates.
