What are some things that you could do as the teacher

Problem

Research shows that if more of the class time is spent on instructional activites then the greater student achievement will be. So, as teachers, we need to do everything possible to maximize the time spent on lessons. The average classroom spends about 75% of the time on the lesson and about 20% of the time on class routines (roll call, putting up and getting out materials, moving from one activity to another, planning for pictures and field trips, etc.) The remaining 5% is spent on classroom management/discipline and social time. Obviously, in order to maximize the instructional time, teachers need to do everything possible to minimize the classroom routines in order to "give" that time to the lesson. What are some things that you could do, as the teacher, to minimize time spent on these routines? Be as specific as possible. Think about some of the things you have seen teachers do when you are doing your classroom observations.
