Mr. Thorn is an 85-year-old male who is asked to prepare for a lung biopsy procedure. There is something noted on a chest x-ray and the physician want to see a sample of tissue for pathology. The procedure is in the afternoon. He was having trouble with episodes of shortness of breath, which is why he sought help from his doctor. He has lost 10 pounds over the past 6 months. He has never had a lung biopsy before. Mr. Thorn collects Medicare and uses his Medicare benefits for his doctor visits.
Mr. Thorn is a widower. His wife passed away 2 years ago and he still misses her. He lives alone, but has friends in the neighborhood. His two children live about 45 minutes away. He told his daughter hi is fine and his daughter said she will pick him up tomorrow at 12:30pn to take him for the procedure.
Mr. Thorn was instructed to not eat solid foods for eight hours prior to his procedure. and not to drink anything for two hours prior to the procedure.
