Q: What are some contemporary theories of motivation and how do they compare to one another?
As a manager at Riordan Manufacturing I recently had three employees take self assessments so that I can better understand them, and be a more effective leader. The results of these test prove that each employee is different, and each employee had aspects about the job they like and dislike. Some of the characteristics of these employees will affect the organization in negative and positive ways. My job as a manager is to use each employee characteristics in positive ways which raises the effectiveness of the company. Some of the negative characteristics I will focus on fixing is Joshua's lack of interest in work and respect from his supervisor, if he does not feel like what he is doing is important, and does not approve of how his supervisor conducts himself, he may leave to find a job that better fits him. Another negative characteristic is Anthony does not feel challenged and does not think what he is doing is important, which could lead to him not putting in his hardest at work and showing up late. Overall each employee is outstanding and has potential with the company, but in order to achieve that potential the negative characteristics need to be turned around and made into positive characteristics. As manager I recommend putting Joshua in charge of a new research and development team and evaluate his leadership ability, and transfer Anthony to that team, so they can both be challenged with new a different task each day, and also award mike either a bonus or pay raise to acknowledge the great job which he is doing for the company.
