Assignment:
Recognizing your expertise in curriculum planning and development, your community leaders have called upon you to coordinate a curriculum development project. As part of an underserved community, your community is eligible for a $2 million grant to integrate technology into the curriculum. However, the grant specifies that this is to be an effort community wide intended to bridge the digital divide that currently exists in your community.
What questions will you need to answer?
1. What are the parents' expectations regarding technology in the curriculum? If the expectations are reasonable then they could serve as a benchmark for this project.
2. What are the technology capabilities of our area? In other words how reliable is the internet service in our area? What download/upload speeds are available?
3. Is the school the main source of internet and technology use or do most of the families in our community have internet access as well as access to technology like computers? If the school is the primary source of access to technology we might consider investing more heavily than if the school is a secondary or tertiary source for internet and technology.
4. What are the technology needs in the school?
1. New computers?
2. Faster internet connection?
3. Smart boards?
4. Video projectors?
5. Other?
