What are barriers to effective strategic planning

Discuss the below:

How do these potential barriers differ from barriers encountered in the general business world

Just like in the healthcare field, the general business world utilizes strategic planning to achieve superior fiscal results as well as gain advantages in their specific field over other organizations. They also have to overcome barriers like healthcare organizations such as lack of leadership, staff resistance to change, leadership initiative, a decline in interest from staff and managers alike as well as uncertainty of the roles each individual is to play within the organization for the plan to be effective. Often times, strategic planning fails because managers fail to implement the proper training and follow through with staff. Another barrier that general business may encounter is over emphasis on daily operations or day to day planning rather than focusing on the overall goal and mission of the organization. Some barrier to strategic planning is that there may be identical procedures in place that are currently not working and yet are left in the strategic planning. In order for a strategy to be effective in the planning process, the method has to be adaptable and formless to the many individual issues that may arise and each will have a different opportunity for them to be solved as the threats to the environment take place (Latif, Gohar, Hussain, & Kashif, 2012).
