The Ways That Various Forms of Art, Music, and Literature Are Used To Influence Our Reactions To Changes Within Society

Art changes reactions in many ways. Some through propaganda, some through way of advertising and others by exaggerating through realism to evoke emotion. Propaganda is done with the intention of pushing one's personal agenda and beliefs. Political cartoons have been around for many years and have taken advantage of this art platform.

As significant changes happen in society so will the inspiration that artist drive from. Art is influenced by changes in society as equally as society is influenced by art . During the time of Enlightenment artist sought to show realism and the struggle of the common worker. At times exaggerated, the art was created to drive home a point. Art is used as a vehicle to spread a message, provokes change, create awareness and bring emotional reactions into play.

Propaganda is perhaps the most negative form of art used to influence reactions with changes in society. Propaganda does not always have to be negative but is mostly used to serve ones agenda and push societies view to match their own. While including some truths, it is slanted to include either false statements or to provoke a scare. White propaganda on the other hand, is used as a tool to ease frustration, emotions of fear and put society as ease. It will often take a negative and turn it into a less negative by trying to hone in on emotions of patriotism, the need to sacrifice for the greater good or creating a sense of, it really wasn't that bad and was needed to be done.

An Example of How a Work of Art Has Influenced Me

Art has affected me in couple ways. First, in my younger years, I enjoyed poetry and literature. This inspired me to start writing at a young age. I was the recipient of a few cash awards while in school and had one of my poems published when I was a senior in high school. I was never an avid fan of paintings or drawings but everyone seems to have that piece that speaks to them.

Michelangelo's "The Creation of Man" has always struck me since I was small. There was something about it that drew me in even before I knew exactly what it represented. It felt powerful to me; so one day I asked my parents who the artist was. As they went on to explain to me what it symbolized I became more intrigued because that explained why I felt the power from it. When I was in my very early 20's I found a canvas replica for sale for $100.00, this was a lot of money for me back then. I wanted the version of the hands only because I liked the close up and how large it was. It had more power in my eyes. Well, it was a lot of money to everyone back then. I knew I just had to have it because every time I looked at it, I was reminded of God.
