Scenario: Jenny is a rather tense person. She always seems to be worrying about something and becomes upset fairly easily. She tends to be suspicious of things and is also timid and apprehensive. Her friend Sarah, who has taken some course in exercise psychology, suggests to Jenny that she might try beginning a regular exercise program. Sarah has learned that even something as relatively simple as going for a walk can increase energy, and more importantly for Jenny, reduce feelings of tension and promote relaxation. Sarah is also smart enough to realize that because of Jenny's timid approach to things, it will be worthwhile for her to have a supervised exercise routine, at least until she becomes comfortable with the process. After about six weeks of exercising three to four days per week, Sarah noticed that Jenny seems to be more relaxed and that she doesn't get as agitated over the "little things" as she did before.
