Problem
The scenario: Linda, a microbiology supervisor, was dimly aware of a romance between Julia, one of her technologists and recently divorced, and Martin, an assistant supervisor in the blood bank who is single. Linda became acutely aware of the problem that was developing when she heard angry voices coming from Julia's workstation and was almost run over by Julia's ex-husband, Nick, as he barged past her. Julia would not talk about the matter, but several of her coworkers reported that Julia was being stalked by her former husband, had physically abused on several occasions, and was scared to death. One observer reported hearing Nick say that they might be looking for two new laboratory people soon. Another employee commented that Nick was an ex-service man who had guns all around his apartment.
