Consider the colonial experiences of Haiti, Brazil and the US. How are they different? Are there ways in which they (or two of the three) are similar? What are those similarities? Are there any differences even among the similarities? Do you think that these different colonial experiences had lasting impacts on these places? What about their processes of gaining independence and their post-colonial experiences? Are those similar or different, and why? Are there implications from these experiences that have affected their overall development?
