Journaling is the art of recording your personal thoughts, opinions, insights, and ideas, usually in written form. It allows you to think, reflect, and express your thoughts on a particular issue, reading, or experience.
This required readings, Shaira's Secret" and "The Wicked Stepmother," are examples of folktales from different cultures (India and Russia, respectively). Your task is to compare and contrast these two stories by answering the questions outlined below.
Reflecting on the required primary texts that we read, answer the following questions in paragraph form. Be sure to make connections to our course content, where appropriate.
i. Choose ONE of the required readings from this week's module. What about the story was familiar to you? What about the story was new or foreign?
ii. How would you describe the moral of both "Shaira's Secret" and "The Wicked Stepmother"? Comment on the similarities and differences between the two in terms of the messages they express.
iii. The two required readings for this week each feature an animal character and a supernatural being. Choose one (or more) of these characters and discuss their importance to the larger story.
