Problem
Legislation and Regulation: We discussed earlier in the semester who regulates and governs EMS. The US Department of Transportation sets the National Standards but who governs the service itself? The National Registry of EMTs was developed to make a nationwide standardized profession. However, the States are still responsible for the certifications and those who are allowed to work in this profession. Should the federal government be the overall certifying body? Should it be handled by the States? What about local agencies?
