After reading Chapter 8, "Gerontology: Working with People Who are Older", the Web sites listed on both the Readings and Resources pages, and watching the videos in the Activities module, write an in-depth response to the questions.

i. Watch the video under "Activities" that explains the parts of Medicare. This is the primary insurance coverage for those over 65. Identify the key parts to the program and what it provides as well as the limits it has and the cost for it.

ii. Social workers need a basic understanding of the human development factors in the aging process. In the textbook on pages 227-230, these factors are reviewed. List these factors identified and explain each. Why is it critical that social workers understand these factors in working with older people?

iii. Social workers have specific roles and interventions with the elderly; identify some of these roles and state the responsibility of the social worker. Additionally note the various settings that social workers would work with elderly clients. What would be some specific challenges with elderly clients?

iv. Read the link under the Readings section entitled "The 15 Most Common Health Concerns for Seniors". List these fifteen categories and identify one statistic for each one. Why should a social worker know this information? How does health problems impact a client and what are some examples of how Social Workers can intervene?

v. Under the Activities section, click on the link for "Living Wills". Read the legal definitions. Describe what a living will, power of attorney, and durable power of attorney are. How can a Social Worker assist clients in these decisions?

vi. Watch the videos entitled "Multicare Home Health and Hospice Social Work Preview". Summarize what a social worker can do for clients in home health and hospice.

vii. In the Readings section, click on the link entitled "Older American Act of 1965" and read the information on the act. Watch the video entitled "Older American Act". Summarize the main programs that are provided for the elderly under this Act. How do these programs benefit older Americans?

viii. Watch the video under Activities entitled, "How to relieve the stress of caring for an aging parent". Highlight the key points made from the presenter. If a caregiver is stressed, what could be the impact on the client? Identify some ways a Social Worker could intervene.

i) The answer should be typed, using Times New Roman font (size 12), double spaced, with one-inch margins on all sides.
