we have the I-section made of steel (E = 29,000 ksi) which is to be used as a column, pinned at the top, and fixed at the base. Bracing is to be added in the direction of the weak buckling axis, at an unknown height, H.

1- Determine the necessary H of the bracing such that buckling about the weak-axis occurs in the upper and lower column sections simultaneously.

2-. Calculate the critical stress for buckling about the weak-axis when H equals the value calculated in part a.

3- Calculate the critical load for strong-axis buckling.

4- Comment whether you think this cross-section is a good choice for this situation.
