Interest rates in Malaysia are higher than in the US or the Eurozone. Malaysia’s overseas debt is currently about 10 percent of gdp. Does it follow that Malaysia should issue much more of its new government debt in dollars or euros?.
We could evaluate the size of the national debt as an absolute amount, as a percentage of national gdp or as an amount per citizen. Which of the three measures do you like best and what is not so good about the other two?
