We are using an annotated bibliography as a part of the research process, as a vehicle to help you collect and evaluate sources, as well as to think through the ways those sources might inform your report and class presentation.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

  • 3-4 primary sources
  • 3-4 secondary sources
  • MLA formatting for an Annotated Bibliography
  • Include a citation and annotation for each source
  • Be organized in alphabetical order by the first word in each citation
  • Be well-edited

REMINDERS:

Primary Sources are the EXAMPLES of your genre that you'll be presenting (Part I) and analyzing (Part II) in your final Genre Presentation (MWA 4).  These should be carefully chosen to be representative and substantive examples of the points you plan to make ABOUT your chosen genre!

Secondary Sources are the scholarly or expert sources found in academic journals or books, but also in the introductions to edited collections or interviews with writers/authors/experts, or special issues of magazines or websites online that are featuring works in your genre.

Your sourcesmust be listed in your annotated bibliography in alphabetical order, must each include an MLA citation of the source, and must each include a paragraph annotation.  Remember that an annotation is a paragraph that includes the following: a brief summary of what the source is as well as its content and an evaluation, a discussion of the source's validity and reliability, and a reflection on how you might use the source in your final presentation and report, and/or about how the source helped you in your research to better understand the larger "conversation" about this topic.
