Water at 25°C is flowing in a buried irrigation ditch below ground. Every 100 feet there is a vent line 1.o inches in inside diameter and 1.0 foot long to the outside atmosphere at 25°C. There are 10 such vents in the 1,000 foot irrigation pipe. The outside air is assumed to be completely dry. Calculate the total evaporative loss of water from the irrigation pipe in lb mass/day. Assume that the partial pressure of water vapor at the surface of the water in the pipe is the vapor pressure, 23.76 mm Hg at 25°C. Use diffusivity of water through air from Table 6.2-1 (0.260*10^-4 m^2/s).
