Was the program successful in accomplishing the

Fitness Project

Students will design and implement a six week long fitness program for a family member, friend or co-worker.

The fitness program will be based on concepts discussed in class. Students will provide justification for the program design using course texts and peer-reviewed journals.

This project consists of two parts:

Part 1: Design of Fitness Program -

• Pre-participation Health Screening

• S.M.A.R.T. Goals

• Baseline Fitness Testing

• Program Design

• Justification of Program Design

Students will provide appropriate health and safety screening for the participant. Participants should be healthy with no known disease or symptoms.

Designing a fitness program for a participant who is symptomatic or has a known disease is outside of the scope of this course. Make sure you choose a participant who is dependable. His or her compliance could affect your success.

Students will set S.M.A.R.T. goals with the participant. Since the program is only 6 weeks longs, make sure your goals are realistic for the duration of the program.

You will not be graded on the success of your fitness program, but you will be graded on the appropriateness of your program design based on the participant's goals.

You will choose fitness tests based on the participant's goals. Using the participant's goals and test results, you will design a 6-week long fitness program for your participant. Justification is the most important component of Part 1.

You should clearly explain your justification for your program using the class lectures, the texts and peer-reviewed journal articles.

Part 2: Evaluation of Fitness Program /inal Fitness Testing

• Results

• Evaluation of Program Design

• Suggested Program Improvements

While results are important, the emphasis of this section should be on evaluating your program design.

Was the program successful in accomplishing the participant's goals? If not, why? If so, could it have been better?

What would you have changed? What did the participant like/not like about the program?

Was it feasible/acceptable/sustainable? Since the design of the program, has any literature been published to suggest a different design would be superior?

Once you have evaluated your design, develop a new 6 week program with improvements to give to your participant.
