US History I & II Extra Credit Assignment Guidelines

The extra credit will allow you to earn a minimum of 10 points with a maximum of 25 points added to your overall grade. The assignment is intended for you, the student, to become more aware of history through tangible associations.

What do I mean? Objects tell stories. History is a living and breathing aspect of life that surrounds us every day. I want you to find a tangible part of history between the time periods in our class and share your reaction to how it influences, alters, or better defines your relationship with what you have learned in class. This project is intended to be as creative as you would like it to be. Below are some examples of what other students have done in the past and should act as a reference point for your inspiration.

1. Visit a museum that has an exhibit on US History, etc. and discover a piece of artwork, sculpture, or physical item such as a tool. Students can write a one paragraph paper describing the item but how that item speaks to you the viewer.

Don't give me a canned description. I want your reaction and opinion on what is being conveyed to you the viewer from the creator. You can also take a picture of the item and add that your paragraph to enhance your presentation.

2. Visit a building that resembles early American architecture. Again, write a one paragraph paper describing the item but how that item speaks to you the viewer. Don't give me a canned description.

I want your reaction and opinion on what is being conveyed to you the viewer from the creator. You can also take a picture of the building and add that to your paragraph to enhance your presentation.

3. Create a video documentary on any subject we have covered. It can be the events, any wars, civilizations, art, literature, philosophy, etc.

Don't just take clips from other documentaries and copy and paste them together to create a collage. This should be original work, with a message and a purpose. The video can be as long as you like but really no more than 3 minutes will be sufficient.

Again, these are suggestions. If you have an original idea that is different than the ones mentioned by all means go with it. If you have any questions please let me know.
